Our first Christmas...sort of.

Even though we first met way back in 1971, and have celebrated Christmas together about 28 times, this glorious pine is our first Christmas tree together. This year will also mark our first Christmas as a married couple. Forgive me for being a little excited about the whole thing, but I am. In fact, that's why this Blog exists. I'm going to share my excitement with anyone who cares to share such a thing. I want to have a record of our first Christmas, and maybe this is the beginning of a new tradition in the lives of Jay & Cathy. In this first edition, I'll be showing off some of our decorations.

Here's a cool little guy. We were in Port Jeff last week and visited the little Christmas store and a new holiday tradition literally jumped out in front of us. The tradition will be to add a new, strange and trippy ornament to our tree ever year. This fella is made of bells, and he seems to be either decorating his little tree, or whipping it. He's near the top of the tree, and as you can see, he's right next to "Santa" Big Bird, who is checking his list to see who's been nice and who's made of bells.

Our stockings were hung from this bookcase with care. See how fancy our first initials look on those stockings. It makes me want to post a meaningful quote...
"You make a living out of what you get, you make a life out of what you give."

I just heard NBA analyst Bill Walton say that. I've got to stop watching ESPN when I'm doing these things.

Just in case you looked closely at the stocking photo and thought to yourself, "Is that Darth Vader making a snowman?" The answer is no. It is Darth Vader making a snow Death Star, which is something I'm really going to try with the first snow. I'm sure the departed citizens of Alderan appreciate a snowy memorial of the Super-weapon that obliterated their peaceful world. I'm particularly fond of Lord Vader's Santa hat. I can see him now, choking an officer to death with the force..."Merry Christmas Admiral Ozzel." Vader's the coolest, but I don't think I'd want him delivering toys or asking me what I want for Christmas.

That's all for today, I'll be updating this thing as often as possible, so come back and feel free to leave comments and stuff.
